Musing the Rebuild is really in response to this past year, where there seemed to be an inordinate amount of highs and lows throughout our cultural and environmental landscape. Much like any of my other work my interest is in interactions between objects and the surrounding environment. The year seemed to be filled with endless sound bites fueling an equal number of reveries as I continue to search and question my thinking and experiences. The gun and hammer imagery has continued as a metaphor for the relationship of building and destroying, whether considered literally or symbolically as we recover from our daily throws of information. The birds have also remained, but less for their individually specific meaning and more for their relationship with the new or reincarnation. Now they are present, because they seem to always be present no matter the event or situation. I have often felt as though I were their muse whether checking the weather during the recent hurricane, working a muck out or just enjoying the night sky while on a break from the studio. Of course there are a plethora of meanings tied to the many varieties, but I have always thought of their presence as a positive sign of the new.
